The Mark Shlanta/Dana Dykhouse Ring of Honor is dedicated not only to these two men who served Scouting faithfully, but to all Scouters, Scouts and Volunteers who exemplify the Scout Oath and Scout Law.

Mark Shlanta

“To make my influence count in the community.”

Mark Shlanta (1965-2022) was a life-long Boy Scout. The grandson of one of the first Eagle Scouts in America (Fred Livermore, 1914). Mark earned his Eagle rank with Troop 14 in Brookings, SD (1981).

He and his wife Peggy, raised four boys (Michael, Karl, Joe, and Scott) to be Eagle Scouts from Sioux Falls Troop 48 where Mark was a long-time Scoutmaster and Merit Badge Counselor for untold Merit Badges. Mark also served as a Cubmaster for Cub Scout Packs 731 and 159. He lived the Boy Scout Oath and Law daily.

His example inspired countless others to be better husbands, fathers, citizens, and community leaders. Mark made his influence count in the community. It is a honor to dedicate the Ring of Honor in his name.

Dana Dykhouse

Dana stands as an exemplary figure of dedication to Scouting, community, and leadership. His unwavering commitment to the Scouting movement is a testament to his belief in shaping the character of young individuals, instilling values of responsibility, integrity, and teamwork.

Beyond the scouting realm, Dana's dedication extends seamlessly into the community, where his leadership shines brightly. Whether spearheading initiatives or actively participating in community service projects, he exemplifies the true spirit of giving back.

Dana's leadership is not defined by titles but by a genuine passion for making a positive impact on the lives of others. His ability to unite and inspire, coupled with a deep sense of responsibility, marks him as a beacon of leadership in both the Scouting and in the broader community.

In every endeavor, Dana embodies the essence of dedication, leaving an indelible mark on those he serves and leading by example for future generations of leaders and scouts. One of the many reason’s this Ring of Honor bears his name.
